HOW IT WORKS

From your first call to your first device — here's exactly what working with OrthoDesigns looks like.

WHICH PATH IS RIGHT FOR YOUR CLINIC?
Two ways to bring 3D printing into your practice. Most partners know within minutes which one fits.
IN HOUSE 3D PRINTING
OUT-SOURCE 3D PRINTING
BUY OUR PRINTER
Bring 3D printing fully in-house. You scan, design, print, and fit — with our software, materials, and clinical support behind you.
Best for: Higher-volume clinics ready to own their workflow end-to-end.
WE PRODUCE, YOU FIT
You scan, we do the rest. Designs and devices delivered to your door in 48–72 hours.
Best for: Clinics that want zero capital investment and operational simplicity.

THE WORKFLOW IN THREE STEPS
01
SCAN
Capture patient anatomy with a phone or tablet-based scanner we'll recommend during onboarding — most clinics use an iPhone or iPad Pro.
02
DESIGN
Shape the device for that specific patient. We use our InnoSoles platform for insoles, and specialised tools for scoliosis bracing, prosthetic sockets, and other orthoses.
03
3D PRINT
Manufacture on a medical-grade 3D printer with finishing and quality inspection before the device reaches the clinic.
COMMON QUESTIONS (FAQ)
Q: Do I need to buy special scanning equipment?
A: Most of our partner clinics use an iPhone or iPad Pro with the built-in LiDAR scanner. We'll recommend the right setup based on the device types you produce. If you already have a clinical scanner, we'll work with what you have.
Q: How long until I produce my first device?
A: With outsource, you can submit your first scan within days of signing. With in-house, your first supervised device typically rolls off the printer within 2–4 weeks of delivery, including hands-on training.
Q: What if my team has no experience with digital workflows?
A: That's normal — many of our partner clinics had no digital experience when they started. Our onboarding is built around that. Our certified prosthetists train your team on scanning, design, and fitting until you're independent. We don't disappear after the printer arrives.
Q: What if a device doesn't fit?
A: As with any custom orthotic or prosthetic device, fitting adjustments are sometimes needed. Our team supports you through them — whether that's a scan correction, a design tweak, or a reprint. Getting the device right is a shared goal.
Q: Can I switch from outsource to in-house later?
A: Yes — many partners start with outsource to test the workflow and patient response before investing in their own printer. We make the transition smooth.
Q: How do clinics decide between in-house and outsource?
A: It usually comes down to monthly volume and capital flexibility. If you're producing devices regularly and have the floor space and team capacity, in-house pays for itself faster than most clinics expect. If you're producing lower volumes or want to start without infrastructure investment, outsource is the cleaner path. We'll help you model it during the discovery call.
